Another low-key and short episode this week.

I share some of my productivity tips that work for me (and could work for you too).

I’m no productivity expert – there’s plenty out there online and in literature – but these have served me well.

More information about the methodologies I mention can be found below.

Next episode is another short one and then after that, full normal service resumes with conversations of ideas and issues.

At last Over The Mic is back!

A short, subdued podcast this week talking about unemployment as well as briefly looking at moving accommodation.

I give some tips on how to cope with the unemployment trap too.

Over The Mic returns on 17th of September

Posted on

Hello,

Hope all is going well with you and you’re enjoying your summer.

Sorry for the sudden pause in the fourth series of this podcast. Unfortunately the last six weeks or so real-life intervened and it has frankly been the most stressful time to date. Moving accommodation and other factors have taken all of my energy away from the podcast. I’ve written a little bit about it for my blog.

It’s safe to say that I don’t want a repeat occurrence of this in the near future.

However I am glad to say I’m getting back on track and series four will resume from the 17th of September.

Why then?

Well numerous reasons.

Firstly the series was originally planned to run from June until October which included several Edinburgh Fringe themed shows during August. Which means that much of the series running order had to be spiked, especially the Edinburgh Fringe which I’m really gutted about.

So the series will resume from the 17th of September and run until the end of this year with the season finale being the best of 2017 show on the 31st of December.

Secondly, the running order now has to be redrawn but it now gives me an opportunity to batch produce material in time for its return. Especially when stability has now returned. In fact of this weekend I’ll be determining this revised running order and getting to work on production from next week.

Thirdly, in order to return content needs to be ready and good content takes time to produce. Mediocre and rushed content doesn’t cut it frankly.

While the podcast is off air I will also be looking into expanding the podcast’s exposure to other platforms and optimise it’s appearance for podcast directories, particularly Apple Podcasts.

Mark 17th of September in your diary and I’ll speak to you then.

Conversation episodes and Ross Campbell return to Over The Mic for the first time in series 4.

This week Matthew and Ross discuss their current affairs exhaustion, one of Ross’ jobs of providing hypnotism to clients, the recent GORGEOUS weather in the UK, and Ross tries to convince Matthew to see Wonder Woman at the cinema.

It’s always great to have Ross on the show.

Some details about the upcoming series 4

Posted on

Hello!

Just a quick post to share more details about the upcoming series 4 of this podcast.

Firstly, a precise series launch date has been determined – Sunday 25th of June 2017. To ensure you will get it on Sunday your time (unless you’re 12/13 hours ahead or behind the UK then you’ll get it on your Saturday or Monday), all episodes will be released on Sundays at 1200 UK time.

How many episodes? There will be 16 of them. Yes that’s right – 2 thirds of 24 episodes for the 2017 quota will take place from late June to mid-October. That means there will be 8 episodes for series 5 at the end of this year. Four of this series’ episodes will be discussion-based while the rest will be interviews.

The discussion episodes will also diversify to having more voices as well as the topics we talk about. On top of that, some Over The Mic episodes I intend to broadcast live online which will become available as a podcast on that Sunday. This will mark my return to live broadcasting since my days at Kirkcaldy radio station K107FM in 2014 and 2015. Further details will be shared on this website in due course.

What kind of themes will this series cover? At the moment, we intend to look at life after graduation, what’s it like being a model, overcoming fears and many more. That may change between now and late June but one thing is for sure, much of August will be devoted to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

We’ll speak to some of the productions taking part in this year’s festival as well as giving you a non-expert view on what shows you can see if you’re in and around Edinburgh. More details in due course and if you’re a Fringe production that would like to promote your show to an audience that stretches from the UK to New Zealand, please get in touch by emailing show@overthemicpodcast.com.

That’s enough for now.

To summarise:

  1. Series 4 starts here on Sunday 25/06/2017 at 1200 UK time
  2. 16 episodes for series 4, running from late June to mid-October
  3. Some episodes will be live and released as a podcast later – more details to come.
  4. Wide variety of themes, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival will be covered in this series. More details to come.

More details will be shared on the website, on our Facebook and Twitter pages. In the meantime, have a look in the archive or subscribe today so you don’t miss out on series 4 starting on the 25th of June.

Over The Mic series 3 finished but series 4 now in production

Posted on

Hello!

It’s time to talk Over The Mic.

Taking into account the recent push towards setting up my freelancing business, I’ve decided to curtail the current series of Over The Mic. There are two other reasons why I’ve decided to do this:

  1. Gearing up for the future. I want the series to grow – in terms of listenership and opportunities. So during this time I’ll be reflecting on the last three series, determining what went right, what went wrong, etc. That might involve greater tweaks to the format and expansion in spin-offs. One type of spin-off I’m considering is live editions of Over The Mic. Monetisation is on the cards too – it may start this series or next series (late 2017) at the earliest. So getting the foundations ready is key – which could also include a rebrand and the introduction of a brand new business model.
  2. Getting back to normal service. The release schedule of the last series was sporadic which in my book is not good. While lots of aspects in other areas of my life – including the day job got in the way frankly that’s not an excuse. So getting back to regular releases is a key thing for this series 4.

The next series will be the largest and most ambitious series of the podcast to date. 12 episodes are pencilled to be produced.

Development and production has already begun – with consideration towards the series’ future direction. This week I’ll be approaching potential guests and begin preparing for recording these segments.

I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. I do hope that you’ll see that this the right decision to take and when series 4 kicks off, it will be a good stream of content coming your way.

I would also like to thank you for your support to the podcast so far: through social media and listening to the show too. This support does mean a lot and encourages me to continue the series. I love producing this podcast and I hope this podcast will have a fruitful future.

In terms of the series 4 launch date – it’s not confirmed as of yet. I’m looking at mid-April at the earliest however you will be the first to know on this website and via my blog, Hansen’s Corner, once confirmed. I’ll also share more about series 4 closer to the launch date on this website and via social media.

In the meantime you can keep up to date with the podcast by:

Thank you for your understanding and your support is truly and gratefully appreciated!

Best wishes,

Over The Mic is back!

Unfortunately our original post about the website being hacked earlier this week had to be removed as part of the cleanup. However the website has now been fixed, made more secure and is now up-to-date on software and plugins. If you have a WordPress site that still requires updating, then for god sake update it NOW! Check the latest news articles and WordPress’ blog post to find out why you should do it ASAP.

A special thanks goes to our website host, Tsohost, for their assistance in getting this website back up and running from it being defaced.

More about why I was away, being hacked and 2017 goals are the subject of this unplugged, short and raw version of Over The Mic.

Normal service truly resumes next week.
