Episode 007: Charity and music (17/07/2016)

Posted on

The new series starts now!

This week’s show we have singer-songwriter Patrick Wallace and film-maker/composer Ross Somerville (a.k.a. Sombreroville Music on to talk about their fundraising song for The Cookie Jar Foundation, Cookie, which you can find on iTunes!

We talk about the song and the video (which you can see below).

Matthew also catches up with Steven Coutts of The Cookie Jar Foundation about their latest activities since his first appearance on the first ever episode [where you can also find out a lot more about the charity’s beginnings and how it’s inpsiration, the late Christopher “Cookie” Coutts].

On top of that Matthew speaks to Mark Bennett of PKD Festival about how his festival is helping the Fife community – even bringing S-Club and 911 along for the party. It starts at 10am on Saturday 23rd of July at Dalgety Bay Sports Centre in Dalgety Bay, Scotland.

Apologies for the slightly muffled line during part of Mike’s interview, this was due to an unforseen technical issue.

Let us know what you think!

Series 2 starts this Sunday!

Posted on

Not long now! I mean, not long now.

On Sunday the second series of Over The Mic will start and it’s going to be a good one! Over the next eight Sundays this will be sharing a mixture of interviews and chinwags.

We start on Sunday with Patrick Wallace, Ross Somerville, Steven Coutts and Mark Bennett telling about their music projects which also connect with charity. Patrick and Ross, previous guests of the show, have written and produced a song for Cookie [Christopher Coutts] who passed away with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2013; this is to raise funds for the Cookie Jar Foundation.

Steven, another previous guest, also appears to give an update on the charity’s activities. To find out more about the charity’s origins you can listen to him on the very first episode of Over The Mic here.

Mark Bennett, Managing Director of Bay Printing and creator of the PKD Festival, talks about his festival making a difference to the local community; as well as how mind over matter can produce amazing results (a running theme for this series)!

Also, Ross Campbell and I will share what you need to pack on holiday and how to tackle the Edinburgh Fringe festival! Speaking of which, there will also be a special Edinburgh Fringe festival show in early August too.

Life coach Sam Forsberg and Josh Quigley the man behind The Tartan Explorer, whose incredible turnaround story from a  suicide attempt to cycling 50,000 miles across the world, are two other guests who will appear on the show.

There’s so much more – but I’ll keep you in suspense for now!

Series 2 of Over The Mic is coming!

Posted on

It’s been busy at Over The Mic in the last couple of months – getting the website ready, figuring out plans for the next series and so on.

However I am delighted to tell you that I can share the first set of details with you today.

Over The Mic will return for it’s second series from Sunday 17th of July, for eight episodes! The move to Sunday, unlike the previous series, means that you can enjoy the last part of your weekend with the podcast.

The format of the show has also been tweaked since the last series and will feature more variety and guests in each show.

Over the next few weeks I will share with you details of guests that will be appearing on the podcast. Many new faces, and one or two you may recognise, will appear on the show.

Since the series will run during the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, we’ll also have a dedicated episode to that. So if you’re a show that needs a bit of publicity then please feel free to head over to the contact us page.

The series will be going into production shortly and I’ll share more nuggets with you on here and on social media.
